We speak of life beneath a veil
Afraid to gaze too long, too deep
For thought, that serpent, loves to coil
Around the truths we dare not keep
To walk, to breathe, to wear the skin
Is to forget the ghost within
We dine with laughter, toast with lies
To drown the echo of our cries
For if we saw, if we looked hard
At all the cracks beneath the glass
The ticking clock, the graveyard pulse
We’d vanish in the breath we pass
So let the clock strike dumbly on
Let mirrors blur, let dusk descend
We live not in the knowing, no
But in the sweet unthinking bend
Forget, dear soul, to know too much
The mind’s abyss is slick & steep
We only live when thought is still
And dream-walk through the dark, asleep
