What I thought I knew dissolved
Worn edges slipping into night’s mouth
Terrible shadows crawl like ink
Beasts sketched from the gaps in my mind
Gnashing quietly, lapping up fears
This isn’t the home I dreamed
Walls melt, unravel into whispers
And the comforts of country sink
A ship in fog, adrift on black waters
Lost in feverish reels of fantasy
We plunge into the paranoid tide
Strangers wear eyes like knives
Gazes sinking just below the skin
Every glance turns back on itself
A hundred spines, poised for the fall
