To be honest, I haven’t watched the Olympics in a long time.
I vaguely remember the Summer Games from last year (was it last year?), and I recall all the internet memes about them, specifically the bad-ass guy who won the rifle-shooting competition. But other than that, I don’t remember too much about the past few games.
I was once a sports fanatic, as I started my career in writing, journalism, and media as a sportswriter.
My enthusiasm for professional sports has dwindled over the years. I think a large part of my sports fanatic years was a way to bond with my father. When my father passed, I lost that connection.
That’s not too say I don’t still pay attention to sports. My Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl this past year, and I watched the game and celebrated. I also love baseball, and I occasionally turn on the MLB Network or a game to check back in with what’s happening.
I’m more of a casual, bandwagon fan now.
All that being said, I think sports is one of those things that’s much better when you have a group of people to watch with. For instance, if you have a parent or friend who is also a big fan, it’s great to watch games together.
And if you live in a city where there’s a ton of team pride like Philadelphia, you’re bound to get wrapped up in it.
